‘Escape Room’ to Debut at Prallsville Mills in Stockton

Can you solve the riddles, puzzles and mind tricks necessary to escape the Mill?

The Prallsville Mills in Stockton, N.J., is bringing a fully-outfitted escape room, the latest in full-immersion entertainment, to its centuries-old complex. Behind the escape room door, with just 60 minutes to work, groups will rush to solve unique riddles, puzzles and mind tricks that all reflect on the early industrial history of the Mill complex.

“Opening an escape room at the Mill gives us a new opportunity to highlight our centuries of business history while challenging our friends to have a good time and learn to work together,” explained Beth Japchen, executive director of the Delaware River Mill Society. “It gives us a new opportunity to highlight our centuries of business histor,y while challenging our friends to have a good time and learn to work together.”

The Mill Society is working with the Doylestown Escape Room to launch its newest pop-up feature. Jack and Heather Dugan, owners of Doylestown Escape, said they welcomed the opportunity to expand into a new community.

“In escape rooms, creativity, teamwork and resourcefulness are the keys to freedom,” Heather Dugan said. “We can’t wait to launch our newest adventure at the Mills.”

Escape room games are live action puzzle challenges in which players use clues to discover how to escape a locked room in a set amount of time. Best experienced as groups, they encourage sound logic, critical thinking, extreme collaboration, and creative problem solving, according to Japchen.

The escape room at the Mill opens Thursday, Feb. 2. Sessions last for 60 minutes, and cost $30 per person. Booking is available online.

The Prallsville Mills date back to the 1700s, when the first grain mill was built on the property. Over the centuries, sawmills, a linseed oil mill, quarries and fisheries were added to the complex. Today, the Mills include 10 preserved buildings that sit at the juncture of the Wickeckeoke Creek and the Delaware River.
