Progressive rock band Stick Men hits Havana April 13

stick menProgressive/art rock band Stick Men will bring their unique sound to Havana New Hope on April 13 at 8 p.m.

At the center of the band’s idiosyncratic style is the Chapman Stick, an electric instrument devised by Emmett Chapman in the 1970s. The “Stick” looks like a wider version of the fretboard of an electric guitar, but with up to 12 strings. It’s typically played by tapping the strings, rather than plucking them —  both hands can sound notes by striking the strings against the fingerboard behind the frets.

In 2007, Tony Levin released “Stick Man” using the Stick and featuring fellow King Crimson band member Pat Mastelotto on drums. Stick Men (the band) was then formed by Mastelotto, Levin and another Stick player, Michael Bernier, who left after the band released “Soup,” and was replaced by Markus Reuter in 2010.

Today’s shows reflect the band’s connection to King Crimson, using experimentation and improvisation during extended jams that often honor the genius of Robert Fripp.

Tickets for limited reserved tables, bar stools, and chairs are $35, and available online. Doors open at 6 p.m. on April 13, and the event begins at 8 p.m.

Havana is located at 115 S. Main St. in beautiful downtown New Hope.
