New Hope-Solebury fourth grade student places third at PA ski championship

James Dougherty, a fourth grade student at New-Hope Solebury Upper Elementary Shcool, took third place in the Giant Slalom at the 2016 Pennsylvania Alpine Racing Association U12 State Championship at Tussey Mountain Feb. 26-28.

The top 45 male skiers under age 12 in P.A. were invited to ski in the tournament.

Dougherty won 10th in the Slalom event, and seventh in the overall competition. He is one of 10 skiers who will represent P.A. at the Francis Piche Invitational Eastern Championship race at Gunstock, New Hampshire, March 11-13.

Dougherty trains with Blue Mountain Racing Association. He has also trained as a guest member with the Snowbird Ski Team and the Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club Alpine Team.
