The opening Sunday of Misery at Broadway’s Broadhurst Theatre represented another feather in the cap of Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope. The Broadway production of William Goldman’s new play, based on the novel by Stephen King, comes nearly three years after the its world premiere at Bucks County Playhouse.

Bucks County Playhouse (BCP) has played a role in producing new work that is Broadway and off-Broadway bound before — Terrence McNally’s play, Mothers and Sons starring Tyne Daly, premiered at BCP in 2013, and went on to receive two 2013 Tony Award nominations.

In 2016, BCP says it will produce a new musical, A Taste of Things to Come, by Debra Barsha and Hollye Levin, which has plans to move to New York, as well.

The final production of the Playhouse’s 2015 season, It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, opens at Bucks County Playhouse on December 11 for a run through Dec. 27. Special pricing is available for preview performances Dec. 11-12, as well as for Christmas week, Dec. 22-24. For more info, visit BCP online, or call the box office at (215) 862-2121.

  • Saw this at The Playhouse in 2012 and while it needed some work, it was a good production. So excited to see it now on Broadway but unfortunately the critics are calling Bruce Willis’ performance “Misery”. We wish them well but not sure how long this show will last.
