Phillips Mill Photographic Exhibition represents ‘every theme, idea, and concept imaginable’

phillips millWhy waste time? The Phillips Mill Photographic Exhibition encompasses every idea known to civilization in 128 photos, say organizers.

That’s right — class struggle, social mobility, the role of women in society, wealth, tradition, corruption, power, pride, isolationism, honor, fate and free will, coming of age, the Copernican principle, externalities, holism, hidden layers, umwelt, black holes, the destruction of Carthage by Rome, the Reformation, the Treaty of Verdun, the English Navy defeat of the Spanish Armada, the work of Buckminster Fuller, existentialism, nihilism — every idea known to civilization is apparently included in this photo show, according to press material.

Jurors selected work from a pool of 467 photos submitted for the event, which ends June 21. In all, approximately 300 photographers entered their work for consideration. Apparently, that number is sufficient to cover everything that’s happened since the Big Bang.

“It doesn’t have a theme,” asserted photographer Barbara Warren of Yardley, adding a note of uncertainty to the purportedly omniscient event. “It just focuses on the photographers as artists and photos as art.”

“If you’re interested in photography at all, it’s a great way to see a very wide selection of styles and techniques,” continued Warren, adding that photographs range from “traditional to avant garde.”

This year’s event is being judged by Paul Grecian of Quakertown, Wendy Paton of Lambertville, and Rick Smith of Philadelphia.

The exhibit is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. The mill, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located at 2619 River Road (Route 32) in New Hope. For additional information, visit www.phillipsmill.org or call (215) 262-6064.

Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for senior citizens and students. All work is available for purchase.
